Ideas for diving in Playa del Carmen

Discover Scuba Diving
At Feel The Diving we understand the desire to swim among thousands of fish, but first an introductory lesson is necessary.
We explain how the equipment, underwater communication and your body work underwater, so that you are prepared when you go down.
After the brief introduction, we practise a little in a pool and then head straight into the sea. It is a calm and safe course where learning and safety come first.
No previous experience is needed for this course, just a great desire to dive!
Bull Shark Diving in Playa del Carmen
We love diving with sharks, always in the most natural, respectful and safe way, both for them and for us.
After a theory session, we head to the Bull Shark Point area, where we descend to between 14 and 45 m to enjoy a dive with bull sharks.
For this type of adventure to be safe, all participants need diving experience, so we ask for the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

Playa del Carmen dive sites
The reefs of Playa del Carmen run parallel to the coast, a few minutes by boat from the harbor. The shallow strip, at around 10 to 12 meters, is where we do Discover Scuba Diving, courses and easy dives. Further out, between 20 and 30 meters, are the deep reefs.
Beginners start at Jardines, 9 to 15 meters with little current, and the shallow parts of Moc-Che and Chunzumbul. Experienced divers go to Tortugas, Barracuda and the Mama Viña wreck, a ship sunk in 1995 that sits between 16 and 28 meters.
If you’re certified, we run daily two-tank reef dives at 8:30 and 12:30, with guide, tanks, weights and water. Every site, with its depth and the level it needs, in our guide to Playa del Carmen dive sites.
Bull sharks, November to March
From November 1 to March 31, female bull sharks gather in a protected area off the coast of Playa del Carmen. For this dive we ask for the PADI Advanced Open Water certification. Season and dive details in our guide to bull shark diving in Playa del Carmen.
Night dives, cenotes and Cozumel
At sunset we head to a shallow reef, five minutes from the harbor, with a maximum depth of 12 meters. Your torch reveals moray eels, rays and octopus. More on our night dive.
The nearest cenotes are about 25 km from Playa del Carmen. With your Open Water you can dive the cavern zone, where daylight still reaches. See which ones on our cenote diving page.
Cozumel, with its coral walls and drift dives, is a day trip from Playa del Carmen. More on diving in Cozumel.
